Discussion Title: We should adapt to climate change rather than advert it

1. We should adapt to climate change rather than avert it.
1.1. Con: If we adapt to climate change, we may never fix the climate again since it could be irreversible in a couple of years.
1.2. Pro: Averting climate change is too risky, and we only have one shot at this.
1.3. Pro: There are countries that have started adapting to climate change now.
1.3.1. Pro: Countries such as the [Maldives and the Netherlands](https://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/big-debate-should-we-aim-stop-climate-change-or-adapt-it-5334351.html) have begun building estimates of rising sea levels into their sea defences.
1.4. Pro: It is not possible to stop climate change and its impacts now.
1.4.1. Pro: [Greenhouse gases](https://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/big-debate-should-we-aim-stop-climate-change-or-adapt-it-5334351.html) stay in the atmosphere for a long time.
1.4.2. Pro: Even if the world stopped all our emissions now, it would still go on heating up for at least the [next 30-40 years](https://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/big-debate-should-we-aim-stop-climate-change-or-adapt-it-5334351.html), increasing temperatures by another 0.6 degrees C.
1.4.2.1. Pro: The world [can't simply stop](https://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/big-debate-should-we-aim-stop-climate-change-or-adapt-it-5334351.html) the emissions because economies and societies everywhere would collapse if they abruptly stopped burning the fossil fuels that emit carbon dioxide.
1.4.2.2. Pro: Even if Green House Gases emissions would stop now, a [2021 climate model study](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-75481-z) suggest that because of the GHG already emitted in atmosphere and the feed back loops of climate change, the warming will continue for hundreds of years. In this scenario, the rising of global mean surface temperature would happen quite slowly.
1.5. Pro: Adapting to climate change will be faster than averting it. We cannot afford to risk trying to go through political barriers and spending millions or even billions of dollars just trying to advert climate change.
1.5.1. Con: Adapting to the effects of climate change is likely to be even more expensive.
1.5.1.1. Pro: We have to constantly renew our adaptation technologies in order to keep up with the worsening climate
1.5.1.2. Con: Adapting, rather than averting, is cheaper in short term because there is not as big need for systemic change i.e. big investments.
1.5.1.2.1. Pro: National political decision making doesn't count effectively for the long term effects of climate change, which makes it hard to implement costly long term changes.
1.6. Con: Averting to climate change provides a long term solution to this standing problem. While it may take some while, we can be certain that it will work, and will work your many generations to come.
1.7. Con: Adapting to climate change is only a temporary fix. The climate will only get worse, meaning that we will have to constantly adapt our systems to combat with the ever worsening weather.
